Pigs might fly

Hi there everyone. Are things harder when than they were pre Covid? Part of me thinks that I’m certainly picking up more ailments that are taking longer to get over? That’s just my observation today!

On to the DT challenge and the sponsor for trimmies CRAFT challenge #628 is Dr Digi House of Stamps. The theme this week is “Not a card”. Each week we invite you to join us at Trimmies Craft Challenge going with the theme.

Not a card kept me thinking for a while on this one. When we choose our images we sometimes have something in mind and other times we don’t. Sometimes we change what we decided upon, or we can’t think of what to do, or we simply forget!

For this one I had the image coloured, but was then ill with a sickness bug for about 4/5 days before the challenge was due. The night it was due I got the inspiration and it just came together. Ideally I could have done more, and I will one day, but right now I’m at least happy that I’ve completed the project!

So here’s a summary of the materials used to make the card:

  • Digital image from Dr Digi’s House of Stamps printed onto super smooth card
  • Backing paper from my stash created with distress resist spray and distress oxides
  • Colouring pencils
  • HB pencil
  • Paper stump (for blending)
  • Lace
  • High tack glue
  • Picture frame with mount

I printed the digital image onto some super smooth card and coloured the image. The image was coloured firstly with a HB pencil which I blended out. When you do this try and think about where the light is and where something is on top of something else that would also cast a shadow. On top of the pencil I started overlaying the lightest of the pinks, again thinking about the light source. On top of this I added the darker pink and then faded it out with the lighter pink. It’s all about building up the colour, so layer it up (I did this a little more to get the tones).

To finish off I also grabbed a background out of my stash, which I’d made in the past, and along with some lace this gave me a sky and clouds.

I actually love what I’ve made and can’t wait until I get a bit of time to go back in and add to it at some point. Thank you for stopping by, please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

TTCRD anything goes challenge – 7th April 2020

Come and join us for the latest challenge from Through the craft room door (TTCRD). Our sponsor this time is Doctor digi house of stamps and Bugaboo.

This first card is using Quackers from Doctor digi house of stamps.

I love these birds. I’ve used them before. This time I colored them with my Conte water colour pencils I’ve had since the 1980’s. They are still going strong despite their age, just like me! I embossed a branch, coloured it with distress inks and the fussy cut it out and used this as a branch to put the bird in on the bold backing paper from papermania. I absolutely love it and this is the card I just gave to my best friend for her birthday!

The second card I’ve made here is using JJ 29 again from Bugaboo.

Again this is an image I’ve used before too. I used it for my mums birthday and it’s one I’m sure I’ll use again. I have used a different colour pallet this time, colouring this with the following Chameleon pens (BL7, BL4, NU2, NU1, PK3, PK4, VO2, BV2, NU00). I mounted this onto a background I made with my gelli plate and a patterned paper sheet from a papermania paper pad that I’ve had forever!

I hope that you like these two digital stamps as much as I do and that you’ll head over and grab them to add to your stash!

CRAFT challenge #545 – Christmas

Come and join us at Trimmies Craft Challenge. Our sponsor this time is Doctor digi’s house of stamps.

This is a great image, quite quirky and modern and playful. I hope you like it too.

I simply coloured this image with pencil crayons and a Sakura gelly roll pen golden star. The image was matted and layered onto the base card and a coordinating paper and a simple die cut added, with gold card behind the “merry”.

CRAFT challenge #520 – inspired by a film

Come and join us at Trimmies Craft Challenge. Our sponsor this week is Dr digi house of stamps. I chose to use ‘Ice Hockey Hugh’ for this challenge as I’ve watched ice hockey for years (I even saw game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Ottawa in 2003!) and one of the films I like it Mystery Alaska.

I coloured Hugh in using Chameleon pens (NU3, BK4, NU00, NU2, WG3, NG4, BL2, RG3), cut him out with my scanncut CM900 and layered him up onto a background I made using two distress inks (fired brick and candied Apple). To make the background I used the direct to paper technique, spritzed the card and added salt crystals. I let this dry naturally and love the mottled effect it’s produced. After cutting the background to size I stamped stars in blueprint sketch distress ink along with the sentiment. The white stars I stamped in versamark ink and added sea foam embossing powder and heat embossed them.

The thought behind this was that I wanted a red white and blue American theme. I know I didn’t get any stripes in there, but those are on the ice rink from the skates!

I mounted all of this up onto a blue base card and love love love this masculine card inspired by the film Mystery Alaska. I hope you like it too and maybe you’ll be inspired to go find the film and watch it or even to make a card of your own.
