CRAFT challenge #539 – Christmas

This is the last challenge of 2019, and also the last challenge of the decade! I’ve used a combination of techniques for this card, and the plan didn’t start out that way it just evolved! So there’s the cute digital image, there’s stamping and inking, there’s die cutting, there’s even a peel off strip and some glitter on top of a 2-way glue pen.

Firstly I coloured the image with some alcohol markers. I think used a 2-way glue pen to cover the hat brim and the Pom Pom and covered these in glitter. I then die cut the image to make a topped and inked around the edge with some distress oxide ink. With the same ink I stamped snowflakes onto the card blank. I stuff an off cut of a First Edition paper onto the left hand side of the card and cut this to follow the scallops around the card base.

Where the edge of this met the snowflake stamping I added a black glitter peel off strip. Onto a spare piece of card I stamped 3 baubles which I coloured with the distress oxide ink, and glittered the pattern on them. Onto the base card I stamped the hanging strings and stuck the baubles at the bottom of each string. The topper image was stuck below these and the pink glittery die cut was stuck towards the left along with 3 gems. Finally in the bottom right hand corner I stamped a sentiment.

I hope that everyone has a happy festive break and that 2020 brings you all that you wish for.

For this card I’ve combined two things. I’m currently making samples for some demonstration days at The Range to show off some of the Trimcraft products. So I’ve combined the image for this challenge with the products I’ll be demonstrating.

I’ve used my Chameleon pens (BL2, VO2, BG3, NU1, NU00, NG4, VO4, PR4 and PK4) to colour this Sheepski Designs image. I cut the image out into a square topped and layered this onto a backing paper I had in my stash and then onto a white card which I had stamped “happy holidays” to form a border around the square. I love the simple effect that this can have and its so simple to do with the Tim Holtz/Tonic stamping plate. I added a bit of sparkle with the gold and clear star Sakura pens.

CRAFT challenge #526 – 3D decoupage

This image from The Paper Shelter was chosen by the team to be made into 3D decoupage. I printed it out several times on Centura Pearl card so that the image had a shimmer to it. I decided on the layers cut and shaped these and then layered these up with some glue gel.

I chose this cute stuffed reindeer for this Christmas challenge. As you may have seen before I like to make cards in colours that aren’t traditional Christmas colours. I wanted to use the backing paper I had so I chose Chameleon pens to compliment the backing paper. Normally I colour and try and find a backing paper, but this worked well as I wasn’t searching through hundreds of papers to find the right one!

I don’t know about you but I find that snowflakes are a staple that I keep to hand as I make Christmas cards throughout the year for design team challenges. I have a mini draw with the dies and flakes all ready to go. I can colour tint them or leave them white depending on the project.

I hope you liked my card, please leave a comment, and thank you for stopping by.

Cute but mischievous comes to mind! Reminds me of my eldest daughter!! I love this sentiment.

She’s coloured with Chameleon pens. The background of the topper is tinted with broken china distress ink and layered onto a background I made with cosmic shimmer powders on black card. I die cut a snowflake flurry which I’ve also added to the card from glitter card. To cut this out I used some parchment paper so that the die cut released more easily and this fell onto the card giving a subtle reflection of the glitter die cut so I decided to stick this onto the card as well!

Hope you like it!

Christmas comes around so quickly in these challenges, but it quite often helps with making cards in time for when I actually get to Christmas and run out of time. At least I have a stash made.

For this challenge I’ve chosen to make a shaker card. My main image is the happy elf. He’s coloured with Chameleon pens (GR1, NU0, RD4, NU00, BR5, BR4, GR4 and GR2). The baubles around him are coloured with cosmic shimmer powders (colours by Phil Martin) and these are also what has been used to create the background. On top of the cosmic shimmer papers in the background I also had a go with my foiling quill. I foiled a tattered lace Christmas cutting pattern. I’ve then mounted a silver frame and acetate onto the card and filled it with little stars to create a shaker card.

I love this fun and quirky image of an elf riding along on a bauble!

I bought this tattered lace snow globe a little while ago, but haven’t really used it before, though I cut the snow globe out and it’s been sitting on my craft table awaiting a project. Does that sound familiar to others out there?

I love the effect of die cut snowflakes on a plain background too, though this time the white on white didn’t look right so I found a piece of card that I’d mopped up some blue ink with to create a subtle mottled blue background and used this to die cut the snowflakes. I’m pleased with the subtle effect the snowflakes give to the background without overpowering the main focus of the card.

The snow globe image is coloured with Chameleon pens, and the snowflake at the base of the bauble and the top of the bauble are done with a two way glue pens and some mixed gold and silver leaf. To emphasize the snow layers on the ground I’ve used some stickles. I then die cut the bottom of the bauble in white and fussy cut the tag part so the I could stamp a sentiment, and attach this with brads.

I hope you like the card!

#501 CRAFT challenge – Christmas humorous

The cat and dog have been playing at Christmas time. I’m so glad I don’t have to cope with this shenanigans in my house!

I chose 4 distress inks to watercolour with for this image and that aren’t necessarily ones you’d associate with Christmas. I like to do this to mix things up a little.

I found some snowflake paper to coordinate with the colours I’d chosen, cut some swirls and some snowflakes and stamped a sentiment.

What acute and jolly snowman. I coloured this guy with some glitter pens I had in my stash as being January the sparkle of Christmas has gone and this will hopefully bring a little back!

This hopefully shows the glitter a bit more!

The background I created with a couple of stencils and some distress ink. I added a snowflake flourish to the top left and a sentiment to finish the card off.
